Blizzard of 2015
It was supposed to be the storm of the century with the National Weather Service predictions prompting Gov. Cuomo and Mayor DeBlasio to shutdown all subways and buses, close bridges and tunnels, ban cars from the streets and close government offices and schools. This is only the tenth time schools were closed in the last 50 years.

Mayor DeBlasio urged New Yorkers to "go home and stay there" and where could they go with Broadway dark, flights canceled, no public transportation and fines for private cars on the roads.
The city waited for the monster blizzard, but the precautions proved to be more painful than the event. The storm path shifted away from us and dumped 30 inches of snow on Boston, but only 7.8 inches on Central Park, 11 inches on LaGuardia Airport, 28.5 inches on Suffolk County. The Blizzard socked New England but it just glanced New York City. Washington DC got just 1 inch.
Gary Szatkowski, of the National Weather Service located in Mt. Holly, New Jersey apologized publicly for the bad forcast which effected the lives of so many people. No apologizes from the mayor and we are yet to see if the people ticketed for being on the road (a misdemeaner with fines up to $ 300.) will be enforced after the precautions proved to be unnecessary.
The kids loved the day off, and did not mind the Blizzard that did not come, they got the day off. Pictured above are kids sledding in Cleveland Park, with a closed Cleveland High School in the background. (Right click on photo to enlarge it)
